Education
As i had mentioned in my earlier post, I am an Engineer and a frustrated one. Many people actually don’t know why we engineer’s are frustrated! Ah, Just kidding only a few don’t know why cause the majority of them are Engineers. Why did i say only a few don’t know cause they maybe Doctor’s or Charted Accountant. Yes, 90% of the Indian population who went to college ended up doing one of these, as Indian parents are too stereotype when it comes to Education and definitely parents want the best for their children but time has
come to a stage where every 5th guy is an/a Engineer/doctor/CA. We all do one of these as it is a professional course and we wanted to do it, Ok, Stop laughing ! I got your mind voice! Yes, It’s because we are
forced into this cause “Log kya kahenge” our parents( by “our” i mean 90% of the Indian parents) are more Interested about their children being better than their friend’s children and trust me competition does not start in school it starts in your own Apartment. Oh, trust me! I have faced it myself and i hated that poor girl for
no mistake of hers! Competition is good but we should realize everyone does not win. Winning is only ONE but whining is rest of the crowd not because they are a bad but they are forced upon on doing certain things that they cannot rather do not want to. So, why do i want to talk about Education? Cause we in India see
education as competition rather than knowledge and why so is big question mark!
Now to solve this question mark we don’t require any specific parent or child, close your eyes and pick one of them cause everyone’s story is the same. Indian kids start going to the play school at the age of 3, they
basically go there to chill, by chill i mean kids way of chilling i.e. Sleeping, eating, playing. These schools are basically to give kids an almost similar atmosphere of school which realistically does not give cause in these
schools what they learn is only 26 alphabets in english. Which can be taught by their own parents, which
does not happen as their parents are working hard for the future of their child which was planned once they were born, yes , once the child is born he or she has the responsibility of their parents long lost dream of
becoming someone, I’m not kidding. If the father could not become a Engineer then it automatically becomes his son/daughter’s responsibility to do so and after a age if they come to realize that the child has other plans ....BAM that child has a sibling(Also, if the mom wanted to be someone else then as only one kid cannot
be two of them they need another) ! This is like a chain reaction so let’s stick to one child in one family who can try doing what his parents could not finish 20 odd years back. So, as we continue.. After a year in the
Playschool, parents stand in queue for like hours from early morning to get an application form for school
admission, for LKG, mind you getting a form and your child into a reputed school is much more harder than getting a first day first show ticket for a Rajnikanth movie( Trust me, It is very tough to get a ticket and you
have to shell out money like Mr Vijay Mallya) so, once you get your child into the school you pay a fee that even Colleges don’t ask for, around a lac. You successfully get your kid in it by hook or crook or you can
even sell your kidney for the same. Now it’s time for the kid to suffer, from the age of 4 till the age of 15 is
just normal exams and quiz and labs exams, viva, quarterly, half yearly and annual exams, when he/she is 15
its time for the freaking board exams, kids these days are blessed cause 10th boards are optional and
depending on the scores of 10th they either put the kid in CBSE( Log kya kahenge if you don’t study in
CBSE cause it’s the most competitive) , state board or ICSE. 11th grade is the most toughest of them all!
If you scrape through it you are god like! then comes the 12th Grade, the life changer, the kismat teller and what not and definitely every Indian student would have heard this dialogue “Beta, 12th hai, study for one
year properly and get good grades and college will be fun” Parents don’t do this, you tell them not to lie and you have told the biggest lie possible. I trusted my parents the same and i know what happened in my
college, It’s just the beginning my fellow engineers/doctors/CA’s. The most annoying part is the routine that hits you when you reach the 12th grade, morning get up go to tuitions, from there go to school sit and study
for 8,9 hours , comeback home and change and go again for tuitions and then go back home and eat dinner and study again. ( trust me, i feel so proud that i could do that! a convict’s life is much better than this) Once your boards start the whole world will give you one advice“Study well, beta!” Finally when you finish your
boards and you’ll wanna jump and punch the air above you but you’ll be picked by the ear and taken back
home cause dude who will write the Entrance exams for a million colleges?? Don’t look back, its only you
who can write for yourself. By the time you finish all this and think of lying on your couch then its time for
results baby!! The time when the world is falling in love with your life, Kitna mila, beta? If you have good
scores then good for you but if you by chance did not get the results that were expected out of you by the
world at least make sure you beat that kid you are always compared to. If not then sorry bro you are so
SCREWED! Let’s be optimistic and say you have got the scores that the world expected. You have 20
days to chill and then comes your college, Engineer’s you were born to be screwed but it takes it time to
swell on you, once you cross the third year with all the arrears ( Cause, what’s a college life without backlogs!! There is a famous saying in Engineering colleges “You don’t have a backlog then you are not an Engineer!” said by a true Engineer ) Doctors you were born to study unless until your dad is too rich to pay and get
you a seat. If you have bought the seat then sorry dude, we had only 4 years but you have one and a half more( I’m not mentioning any CAs cause i have no friend who went on to do that.) So, college life is going to be fun for Engineers cause we don’t study and also equally hard cause we don’t study !You will enter the world where no one cares about their Kidneys and Lungs. ( If you know what i mean ) It’s party, fun, get screwed , repeat. Engineering colleges have around 44 exams(varies from a college to another but this is for most
colleges ) a semester so that into 8 gives us a grand total of 352 leaving the backlogs and the number of time you have written that. Once you are done with engineering you’ll be placed, maybe instantly or maybe after 6 months or even after years but as they all say, you’ll get a job! But only an Engineer knows how tough it is
to crack one , the one they want!
And life moves on...
But what is my point of explaining almost the story of my life and my fellow students life? Why is this so
tough? Why is it that a guy/girl should slog so much for a paper that says ENGINEER? What do we get
other than being frustrated? NOTHING! Trust me, What ever you are studying in your life comes to no use
later on, yes , 18 years of exams and books and tuitions etc are all just so that you don’t use it later on.
SO SAD! I feel terrible and i have already forgotten what i have studied even the simplest. Education system is so theoretical and not practical, when it is practical a student will remember even the toughest of the math problems ever. I’m not blaming the education system alone even the parents play a big vital role for it. Why
should your son/daughter be only one of the above three i keep mentioning? Why cannot he decide his/her
life? Why do you have to forcefully keep your bag full of ambitions and career choices on their heads just
after they are born. I’m not saying all are like that but majority of them are. They are all so deluded by the
slogan “Log Kya Kahenge” What will the world think ? Indian parents are so into this that they never thought what will my child think ?? What does he want to do? He might be good at something else and have an
amazing talent in some other field but still would be studying for AIEEE and IIT-JEE exams.
Let’s not think of the Society. Let’s not think of Log kya Kahenge , lets not think of what will he do in life if not an Engineer! Let’s think we’ll be supportive of what you want to be. I blame the society for creating this, the padosis , auntys and uncles everyone! Let’s be the change, let’s allow them to think! Let’s allow them to do what they want!Change the education system? No, change your mentality! Let’s see our new generation in other fields as well.
